John Lawson is the “go-to” authority when it comes to online selling success in the Digital Age. He is the bestselling author of “Kickass Social Commerce for Epreneurs” and I had the chance to ask him specific questions about social selling!

What is social selling?

So social selling is a technology twist on an old-school thing. Sales have always been social. Anytime somebody’s on the other end of that transaction, it’s social interaction, so social selling is all about leveraging your social interaction for the transaction.

Why selling means helping people

If you’re scared of selling, you should be more scared of going hungry and being broke. Okay, so that will help you get over selling first. You know, because if you are broke and destitute and have no food, I guarantee you’re gonna sell something, or you’re gonna beg for something, right? Instead of seeing yourself selling something see yourself helping other people. Why won’t you help those people? See, that’s a paradigm shift. I have to tell you about my product because this will help you. So it’s not selling anymore.

The holy grail in social

But the biggest mistake is the trust back. If people are already trusting you, you don’t want to jeopardize their trust. Trust is the holy grail in social selling. That’s the one thing. Once you establish the trust, never break it. Sometimes you could destroy the trust by just making a bad offer.
